To enter the House of the Last Cartouche is to find oneself immersed in an exceptional place that has kept its authentic and moving character. It is indeed in this old inn that the glorious battle took place which gave it its name.
From the day after the fighting, the Maison de la Dernière Cartouche became a museum that presents the battle and the memories of the French and Bavarian combatants, but also the suffering of the village and its inhabitants. The people of Bazeillais paid a heavy price in the 1870 war, which for the first time brought together all the German states united with Prussia (William I) against France (Napoleon III).
